Nobody liked the new “Matrix”
Village Roadshow has filed a lawsuit against Warner Brothers because the company began streaming the new film “The Matrix Resurrection” on its online cinema site HBO Max at the same time as the movie was shown in actual offline theaters.
Despite the companies’ long-standing collaboration, Village Roadshow is extremely unhappy with such a “mixed” premiere of Lana Wachowski’s film. The lawsuit alleges that the respondent illegally used intellectual property owned by the claimant to promote its HBO Max streaming service.
It is noteworthy that, despite all sorts of scandals around the new “Matrix”, the film still failed miserably. With a budget of $190 million, it was only able to raise $148 million. Thus, the film not only failed pay itself, but also suffered noticeable losses.
