Ministry of Culture plans to increase the number of foreign films with Russian participation
The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation plans to hold a competition for the provision of subsidies to joint international projects with minimal financial participation of Russia. This will support even more foreign films per year. This was announced at a meeting in the Ministry of Culture of Russia by Olga Lyubimova, director of the Cinematography Department of the Ministry of Culture of Russia.
«We are talking about separate projects when European or any other partners ask Russia to enter into joint production with minimal financial support. That is, when we finance not the larger part of the project, but the smaller one. There are a lot of such projects and the industry has talked a lot about the need for such a competition”, explained the director of the department.
“As a rule, Russia participates in joint production with majority financial support, that is, we always invested mostly – up to 80% of the estimate. Certainly, we talk not about 50 films, but, for example, about five or seven films a year. We expect that mainly foreign producers will promote films at major festivals, as well as distribute them,” the director of the department added.
