RUR took part in a seminar on copyright issues in Bishkek

On July 12, 2017, Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, hosted a regional seminar “Copyright. International experience of licensing in the field of private copying.” The event was organized by the State Service of Intellectual Property and Innovations under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzpatent). RUR was presented at the seminar by Deputy Director General, Head of the International Department, Eric Valdez-Martinez.

The aim of the event was to familiarize the experts with the foreign experience of protecting the rights in the field of private copying. The seminar was attended by representatives of the Kazakhstan Authors’ Society, the National Union of Rightholders of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstani societies “Abyroi” and “Amanat”, representatives of state bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic, authors and rightholders, as well as by representatives of equipment importers.

Chairman of Kyrgyzpatent, D. Esenaliev, addressed the meeting participants with a welcoming speech. He noted that the seminar is held within the framework of the preparatory activities of the International Anti-Counterfeiting Forum, which will be held in Bishkek on September 14-16 this year.

E. Valdez-Martinez told his colleagues about the Russian experience in collecting, distributing and paying remuneration for private copying. Also, Deputy Director General of the Georgian Authors’ Society, M. Kululashvili, made a presentation. Participants of the seminar listened and discussed reports on such topical issues as “Legislation and international agreements in the field of copyright and related rights”, “Copyright. Registration of copyrights”,”System of Collective Management of Property Rights of Authors and Copyright Holders”.
