Meeting of the leaders of RUR and CISAC was held in Moscow

A working meeting of the leaders of RUR and CISAC – the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers was held on February 12, 2016 in Moscow. On behalf of the RUR, the negotiations were attended by the Director General Andrey Krichevsky and Deputy General Director Eric Valdez-Martinez, and on behalf of the CISAC, by the Director General Gadi Oron and European Bureau Director Mitko Chatalbashev.

Topical issues related to the activities of societies for the collective management of rights in Russia were considered at the meeting. RUR representatives told CISAC leaders how the collection and payment of remuneration in the sphere of private copying is being carried out. In particular, such issues as the system of rights holders and works registration, the procedure for allocating remuneration in favor of rightholders were raised. The experts discussed the possibilities of using the CISAC technical tools for identifying rightholders. Also, an issue was raised considering the status of RUR in the CISAC: in 2014, the Union was admitted to the associated CISAC members, and the issue of joining RUR into the Confederation as a full member will be decided this year.

Development of cooperation with the CISAC and active participation in the system of interaction of copyright societies from different countries allows the RUR to conclude new international agreements with foreign societies, as well as to represent the interests of Russian rightholders in the international arena.

The International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) was founded in 1926 in Paris by representatives of 18 copyright societies. Today, CISAC unites 230 societies from 120 countries of the world.
